Beyond the Barricade...

A mysterious old woman arrives at the House, intent on speaking with Adriana.  Meanwhile, the Phoenix Fighters deal with their sense of betrayal over what Pfalz did.  Given the chance to explain herself, Pfalz expresses severe guilt and swears that she was forced, against her will, to help the Ebene.

Adriana suddenly calls a meeting.  She reveals to the House that Maze's threats are genuine and that a legion of Shaldanite soldiers are marching on the House.  The Phoenix Fighters begin bracing themselves for impact, boarding up the windows and doors and collecting weapons.  Adriana divides the House into teams, led by Philip, Valero, Amorette, and Tranns respectively.  Each team is assigned a part of the House to protect, while the kitchen staff and Mia remain in the kitchen to care for the wounded and the noncombatants hide in the magically sealed basement.

While everyone follows Adriana's plan, Casey makes plans of her own.  Seeing the attack as an opportunity to escape from the bondage of her royal blood, Casey enlists in the help of a reluctant Shawn to arrange for a great hoax to stage her own death.  On the night before the attack, with the Shaldanite army in sight, the Phoenix Fighters find themselves openly expressing their love for each other.

The attack begins in the morning.  Though Valero's team in the attic puts up a valient fight to push back the soldiers, they make to the House, sending logs through the walls and falling in with fire and acid.  Philip's team just barely manages to keep the soldiers out of the House, aided by Ariadne distracting the frightened Humans by revealing her demon form.

Casey puts her plan into action, retrieving a corpse from the field and dressing it up in her clothing, complete with her royal crest.  She has Mia teleport it into the middle of the fray.  It has the desired effect of catching everyone's attention long enough for a commanding voice to call a ceasefire.  From the staircase, Queen Darla, the mysterious woman, appears.  She orders the soldiers to withdraw, fearing harm might come to her real niece.  She tells the Phoenix Fighters that she will leave them be, provided that they hand over Pfalz.  Immediately, everyone steps forward, claiming to be Pfalz.  Touched by their loyalty, Darla takes her troops and leaves, fully aware that Casey is alive and well.

Aden offers Pfalz the choice to leave the House or stay.  She elects to remain with the people loyal enough to protect her even when she betrayed them.  Meanwhile, the stress from the battle has caused Adriana to go into labor.  With Valero, Casey, and Shawn at her side, she gives birth to two healthy children, Chandler James and Isabella Demora, and a stillborn, Sophia Alyssa.
