Life is going well in Shaldani, with the Hylian missionaries and Risan soldiers finally managing to cooperate.
They're even getting ready to celebrate the birth of Juliette and Pyramus' first child. Unfortunately, things begin
to go awry when there is a sudden, unexpected blizzard. In the middle of the winter. Crops begin to die and all
construction stops. The next morning, however, there is a horrid thunderstorm, followed by an incredibly hot afternoon.
The bizarre weather continues throughout the week, ending in a snow festival for the Hylians, while the Risans burrow and
try to stay warm.
At the snow festival, Aden, Adriana, and Lucien meet with a friend of Pyramus, Hyde, who's only just arrived in Shaldani.
They make pleasant conversation until Insa arrives from the Phoenix House. It seems that the pipes have completely frozen.
Philip is nowhere to be found and since Lucien may or may not have worked as a plumber for a week or two, he's called back
to duty. As Insa and Lucien depart, however, Insa notices that Hyde's demonstrating some irrational emotions and intense
nervousness, as if he's hiding something.
Back in the Phoenix House, Lucien and Insa spend some time in the kitchen, talking. The pipes start working again.
And then they won't stop. Quickly, the running sink begins to fill the kitchen like a flash flood. Lucien and
Insa climb onto the counter, but can't make it to the door. To add to their problems, several of Casey's electrical
inventions fall into the water and explode, making the water completely deadly. Left with no other choice, Lucien and
Insa climb up, grabbing the support beams on the ceiling and forcing a hole into the crawlspace. They just barely manage
to get out of the kitchen, falling through the drywall into the lobby.
Insa picks up an emotional signal from the pool area. She and Lucien go to investigate. Unfortunately, Insa
is losing blood from a piece of the toaster that's embedded itself in her arm. She becomes dizzy and falls into the
pool. As Lucien jumps in to grab her, the room starts to get cold. In an instant, the surface of the pool begins
to freeze over, trapping the two Risans underneath. They struggle, eventually breaking the ice enough to pull themselves
up onto the surface. They immediately retreat into the lobby, only to be confronted by a series of funnel clouds racing
across the floor.
The two of them start to climb for higher ground. Unfortunately, vines begin crawling under the floorboards and
carpets, creeping up to strangle them. Lucien identifies them as a Risan plant, Nagini vines. He breaks one off
and smears its own sap on it, causing the vine to become weak. Together, he and Insa cover themselves in snap and race
to the roof. There, they run into Hyde, holding the Hylian Rod of Seasons, a powerful, magical tool capable of changing
the climate of any area.
He taunts them, revealing that he is a member of the Knights of Genetic Purity, a Hylian splinter cell that will do anything
to prevent the birth of half-breed babies. Insa tries to fight him, but he continually knocks her back with the Rod.
Soon, however, the vines manage to reach the roof. They tangle themselves around Hyde, causing him to lose control.
Lucien gets the Rod from him. Hyde is taken into custody and banished from Shaldani. In gratitude for her help
in defeating him, Juliette appoints Insa to the position of second in command of the Risan camp.
