A Risan Wedding

Although arrangements for Tristan and Insa's official, Niflheim wedding are a good ways off, Tristan decides it's time for them to have a Risan ceremony.  Although Insa shows some insitial hesitation, he insists until she eventually gives in.  A date is quickly set and soon, all of the Phoenix Fighters are gathering for the ceremony.  While Adriana and Casey help Insa to get ready, Aden and Quinn spend some time with Tristan, before he decides that he needs a few moments to himself.  Outside of the Phoenix House, he encounters a frantic, one-armed Risan man who warns him that he cannot marry Insa.  When Tristan tries to ignore the old man's warnings, the stranger pulls out a magical device.

In a flash, Tristan and the old Risan find themselves in Insa's cottage.  The old man explains that it is five years in the future, after he's married Insa.  Unseen, the two of them watch as a mortal, one-armed Tristan listlessly watches a baby boy while Insa and Nessa maintain the household.  It seems that they've been shunned from the Risan camp for Tristan's failure to contribute anything to society.  Insa has grown withdrawn and sad because of it, putting a serious strain on the marriage.

Tristan refuses to believe that any of this could be true, despite the fact that the older man, who claims to be him, insists upon it.  To illustrate the point, the older Tristan uses the device again, propelling them ten years into the future.  Insa feeds Nessa, their son, and a new daughter who is clearly half Hylian and not Tristan's child.  Drunk and unshaven, Tristan stumbles back into the house to join the meal.  He and Insa get into a shouting match over the fact that he no longer even tries to help the family.  It ends with Insa bustling the children out of the house.

Again, the older Tristan uses the device.  He takes Tristan twenty years into the future.  He and Insa have become completely estranged.  She can barely move due to years of physical labor.  The children are gone, desperate to find work outside of Shaldani.  Tristan and Insa get into a screaming fight over all the lost potential of those years.  As Insa declares how much she hates Tristan, he picks up a kettle and beats her to death.

Frightened by what he's seen, Tristan--back in the present--flees the realm, just as the ceremony is beginning.  The old Risan man arrives to gloat about what he's done to the Phoenix Fighters and Insa recognizes him as Komo Grania.  She cut his arm off many years ago.  He calls her a whore and an outlaw who will never be loved until Lucien knocks him unconscious.  Casey is sent to retrieve Tristan and tell him the truth.  He worries that what he's seen might still come true, but Casey points out that he could never be that way.  Reassured, Tristan returns to Shaldani.  He and Insa are married.
